Light-Access, the transmission of audiovisual accessibility services through light, is a project currently being carried out by the Carlos III University of Madrid. Its objective is to develop a communication system that embeds audio information and/or text in the visible light obtained from the LEDS in ambient lighting to give instructions to the user.
The system consists in incorporating accessibility services into light signals. The user picks up the information transmitted by this system through a small optical receiver that captures the visible light and decodes the data, i.e. the information sent from the transmitter. This is then retransmitted through devices such as loudspeakers, headsets, glasses with a built-in viewer, cell phones, tablets and laptops, etc.
The system can be incorporated into the workstations of people with sensory and/or intellectual disabilities to transmit accessibility services in a customized and discreet manner.
