ENABLED
The continuous growth in Europe of broadband multimedia networks has had an enormous impact on society, and yet in most cases people with visual impairments or another type of disability cannot benefit from the advantages afforded by integrated telecommunication services. This is largely due to the inaccessibility of the services offered.
The ENABLED project explores the aspects related to the digital divide in the world of telecommunications, focusing in particular on access to geographic information and using the capabilities of a fixed-mobile convergence network to support the mobility of visually impaired people.
Indra's role
User requirements. Development of tools to record or create accessible maps for visually impaired people using tactile and/or haptic devices. Validation with users and training.
Specific tasks
Development of technologies to create accessible graphical content in broadband multimedia networks, basically for representing indoor and outdoor maps. Development of ubiquitous tools to facilitate access to the information in the maps, and interfaces that are adaptable and interoperable irrespective of their location or the user's equipment.
