Ambient Intelligence for Cognitive Disability. Developed by the Autonomous University of Madrid, AMICOG is a workplace inclusion project for people with intellectual disability.
Its objectives are to assist and train workers with cognitive disability to perform their daily duties at work. One of the problems that this sector of society encounters in the workplace is insufficient knowledge about how to use the company's resources to perform their tasks. Workers receive training on how to perform tasks in the workplace, but this training is very general, and on taking up employment with a company they encounter processes that require the use of specific resources. In these cases, the period of adaptation is inevitably quite costly, for both the worker and the company.
Mobile devices (smartphones) were chosen for the project because of their widespread use and their enhanced technological capabilities. Today's devices can be used to perform numerous tasks thanks to the increased memory and improvements to processors that have been introduced in recent years, as well as the new hardware components now available (high-resolution cameras, GPS trackers, digital compasses, accelerometers, etc.).
The Chair will develop new ambient intelligence technologies to assist workplace inclusion for people with cognitive disabilities. The use of ambient intelligence technologies can play a role in improving inclusion for these people by supporting them and making up for the deficiencies that hinder their performance in the workplace.
